Within Kaia Gerber’s Jetsetter beauty routine

After spending a Sunday by the pool at her parents’ home in Malibu, Kaia Gerber slips her five-minute diary into a prepackaged carry-on bag and draws a red eye on New York. The 20-year-old model – and the face of Marc Jacobs’ Daisy Ever So Fresh – doesn’t wear a single pair of heels. “I know I’ll be walking a lot,” she says, explaining that during the week she’ll go from her classes in Brooklyn to dinner in the West Village before heading to a friend’s concert in Terminal 5 (so, Celine boots are the best to move around).

Later, Gerber recounts an entire week of his life. On Monday she’s eating a spoonful of seamoss gel (a new health trend in which she’s “very busy”), and on Saturday she’s grabbing a breakfast sandwich in her pajamas before getting ready for the theater. Her pace is fast and her advice is honest. The following was told to Megan Decker and edited for length and clarity.

I wake up at my parents’ house, which is wonderful: it’s on the beach. I usually wake up early, so I have like an hour before the rest of the world is awake and I don’t have to work yet. I make a matcha and take it out with me. I write The Five Minute Journal or five minutes of stream of consciousness and read for a while. I’m reading Leave me by Melissa Febos.

My mom wakes up and we go hiking together. We take a little excursion to Malibu, which is really beautiful. Let’s take my dog Milo who can take me out. Then let’s go get smoothies.

I take a shower and wash my hair. I wash my hair every day, and I know people have thoughts, but that’s what I do. I use Stephen Knoll shampoo and conditioner. Now that I have colored hair, I have to think about what I wash it. Then I’ll use a coffee scrub. I wash my face with Allies of Skin cleanser and put ClearChoice sunscreen on my face.

On my body, I really like this Hamptons tanning oil that contains an SPF – my dad introduced me to it. I’m wearing a hat too. My face is always five shades lighter than my body. I work by the pool, I read some scripts and stuff.

On Sunday evenings we have this tradition in my family where we make homemade pizzas. At night, I wash my face again and do my night routine, which is pretty much the same every night.

Monday I wake up at my house. I have a spoon full of sea moss gel, a new thing that I really like. I train with my wonderful trainer Kirsty [Godso]. Then I’m going to get a smoothie.

I go home and wash my face. If I work from home, I use Allies of Skin Moisturizer, the peptide and antioxidant firming daily treatment, it’s great. I work from home, make dinner and get ready for bed.

Here’s my night routine: I wash my face with Allies of Skin cleanser. All I use is Allies of Skin; I don’t use anything else. I get the products for free, but they literally changed my skin. I use CE15 bakuchiol oil, mix it with the night cream and soap it on my face and go to sleep.

I’m on set on Tuesday. I wake up at 4 in the morning and immediately go into the shower. When I go to work I don’t put products on my face, I just go clean. I wash my hair because I think it is easier to work with fresh hair.

I work all day and then I have to catch a flight. I run home and take a shower again, wash my makeup. On days when I wear a lot of makeup for work, I use a make-up remover balm and then wash my face. I use this balm from Farmacy which removes all eye makeup and breaks it down very well.

I am a prepackager. I packed my bags days in advance, so I take my bag and walk out the door. My lips get very dry when I travel, so for plane travel I use the Laneige Sleeping Mask, lotion it on my lips and go to sleep knowing that I will wake up in New York.

The red eye in New York always sounds like a good idea … but it’s actually a bad idea because you only have four hours to sleep. But I can wake up in New York, which I like.

It’s very hot, so I take a shower and put on sunscreen. I know I will walk a lot today. I’m taking classes here in New York. I go straight from school to dinner, so I keep things in my bag. I get my makeup done in the car in about five minutes. There is a little bit of YSL Touche Éclat under my eyes and then the Rouge Volupté Shine on my lips. I spray on my perfume Daisy as a refreshing.

I go home and do my night routine. I also have a cup of peppermint tea; I try to have a cup of mint tea with honey every night.

I wake up and get a Zoom call early. My Zoom routine is not to shower, but to make it look like I have taken a shower. I wash my hair, sometimes I pass a hairdryer on it. I put on some makeup, the top half of a presentable dress, and stay in sweatpants or pajamas.

I have class again. The classes I’m taking are in Brooklyn, so I’m going to them. It’s like five miles, but it’s really lovely. It is beautiful here and I love to walk. Also, I drink three Hydro flasks a day, lots and lots of water.

I come home, get ready for bed and go to sleep. Christophe Robin has a really good hair mask, so sometimes I put it on my tips and sleep in it.

Friday I walk to Washington Square Park. When I moved to New York I always went out there because kids my age went to college around there. I walk there and I like it in the summer when everyone is out.

Meeting with my friend Nico which I did American horror story with and my friend Travis who is here and staying with me. We grab the matcha, sit in the park and catch up.

For dinner I go to Via Carota, which is a very classic New York. Is very good. Then after that I go to a concert, so I put a little more effort into getting ready. I am blowdrying my hair. My hair is actually naturally curly. Usually, I curl it with Dyson Airwrap – I’m not good at doing my hair and this does it for you – or I’ll just let it air dry. I could go in and add some curves with my straighten. I put on some pants, a waistcoat, some boots and some Daisy.

My friend’s concert in Terminal 5 is really fun. Being able to watch live music is really cool and refreshing. Then I go home and go to sleep. It’s later than usual, but I never have never sleep wearing makeup.

Saturday morning I walk, in my pajamas, to get sandwiches. I’ll be back, shower. I have a Zoom meeting, so I’m getting ready for that, the shortcut version of what I normally do. I put on the moisturizer, some Rouge Volupté Shine and brushed my brows.

Across the Williamsburg Bridge and back.

Then I go to a show called Circle jerk. It is not at all what it looks like, but also exactly what it looks like. He was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize: it’s really a brilliant job. I like dressing up for the theater, I think it’s really fun. I curl my hair and put on some Daisy. I don’t wear heels in New York because I walk everywhere. Instead, I wear my Celine boots, which are trusted. They took me far.

I go home, drink my tea and go to bed.
