Daniel Kaluuya is “the Robert De Niro of Jordan Peele’s Martin Scorsese,” echoed his castmate, as the two reunite for the highly anticipated horror film Nope.
US actor Brandon Perea said Kaluuya and Peele were “doves” in the industry and the production was an “incredible experience”.
Details about Nope, set on a Californian horse ranch, are scarce, although trailers suggest there is a sinister, supernatural element to the film.
The film is Peele’s follow-up to the acclaimed films Get Out and Us, the first that earned him the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
His thought-provoking films are known for addressing race issues in the United States and beyond through the lens of horror.
No, he stars Perea, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Donna Mills and Kaluuya.
Speaking to the PA news agency about Peele as a director, Perea said, “In the sense of Martin Scorsese, Daniel is his De Niro.
“Me, I’m like ‘let me be your Leonardo DiCaprio then’, because Scorsese and him work together.
“I’m trying to be second place, you know, that’s what I’m trying to do.”
About working on the film he added: “It was an incredible experience.
“I learned so much, but my favorite part was working with all these amazing people. Working with Danny Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun … Jordan Peele was behind the lens.
“These are all giants, so what they do is the best of the best.”
Peele has also previously described Kaluuya as “my De Niro”, although the actor said it was necessary to “implement your career” before being mentioned along with “those legends”.
“It’s great, but for me I always stay focused and it’s an absolute honor and a blessing to see me that way, but it’s like, what are we doing?” she told the BBC’s The One Show.
“You really have to do it. You have to actualize your career to be mentioned with those legends.
Speaking at the Nope premiere in London, Kaluuya told PA that it was “really great” to be part of the project and help Peele “build another world”.
The 33-year-old actor wore black sunglasses with a white T-shirt and camel-colored dress as he posed for photos outside the Odeon in Leicester Square.
Rappers Stormzy, AJ Tracey and Mercury Prize-nominated singer Joy Crookes were among the celebs who joined the cast on the blue carpet at the star-studded event.
Stormzy, 29, has a casual figure in a dark top, black pants, and gray sneakers as she paused to take selfies with a huge line of fans.
The Big For Your Boots hitmaker is a longtime supporter of Kaluuya’s work, having verified the actor’s name in a tweet after winning a Bafta “Rising Star” award in 2018.
