Covid rules are being abandoned around the world, with nearly all European countries, including the UK, and at least 31 beyond Europe now completely free from travel restrictions.

However, testing remains in place for some long-haul travel, unvaccinated or unboosted people are still completely banned from some countries, mask rules remain, and Covid passports are sometimes used.

Our regularly updated country-by-country guide explains the major restrictions in all major vacation destinations, so you know what to expect. However, they change quickly, so it would be wise to cross-reference the Foreign Office website as well.

Restrictions remain

Holland

Only fully vaccinated UK citizens who can provide acceptable proof of vaccination, which includes the UK Covid Pass, can enter the Netherlands.

If you have received a booster (or a third dose), you are considered fully vaccinated for entry to the Netherlands. There is currently no expiration date for booster jabs. If you have not received a booster (or a third dose), but have received two doses of a vaccine approved for use by the Netherlands, then you qualify as fully vaccinated if any of the following apply:

  • at least 14 days and no more than 270 days have passed since the administration of the second dose of a two-dose vaccine (BioNTech / Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca) or;

  • at least 28 days and no more than 270 days have passed since receiving the Janssen vaccine (Johnson & Johnson)

Spain

If you are not fully vaccinated, you can enter Spain by presenting one of the following documents:

  • documentation proving that you have performed a diagnostic test and have tested negative within 72 hours of entering Spain (PCR) or 24 hours if an antigen test is used.

  • proof of being cured of Covid-19 in the past six months.

Slovakia

UK citizens who are not fully vaccinated can only enter if they are one of the following:

  • resident in Slovakia

  • a close relative of a Slovak resident or citizen (i.e. spouse, minor child or parent of a minor child)

  • commercial transport personnel

  • a student studying in Slovakia

  • transit through Slovakia within 8 hours

  • you fall under certain limited exemptions

Luxembourg

If you arrive by plane, you must present proof that you have been fully vaccinated or proof of recovery within the last year to enter Luxembourg.

Luxembourg will accept UK proof of Covid-19 recovery and vaccination record.

Dubai

Entry rules for the vaccinated

Travelers who show proof of vaccination no longer need to show evidence of a recent negative test. It may be necessary to perform a PCR test on arrival if required.

Entry rules for the unvaccinated

Unvaccinated arrivals must show evidence of a negative PCR test performed no more than 48 hours prior to departure. There is also the option to show evidence of a Covid recovery in the past month.

Arrivals may be required to take an additional test on arrival and to isolate themselves pending the result (if the result is positive, depending on symptoms and accommodation plans, they may be required to self-isolate in a government facility, hospital , their hotel or private accommodation for at least 10 days).

Covid passports

Nobody.

Mask rules and other restrictions

Masks are mandatory in some public spaces and on public transport but optional outdoors.

Rules for children

Children under the age of 16 and those with severe and moderate disabilities will be exempt from the test.

India

Entry rules for the vaccinated

Vaccinated travelers must submit a self-declaration form on the “Air Suvidha” online portal before traveling and upload a proof of vaccination certificate. Random tests may be carried out upon arrival.

Entry rules for the unvaccinated

Unvaccinated travelers must submit a self-declaration form on the “Air Suvidha” online portal before traveling and upload proof of a negative PCR test performed within the last 72 hours. Random tests may be carried out upon arrival.

Covid passports

None, but some extra controls are currently in place (see “Mask Rules and Other Restrictions,” below).

Mask rules and other restrictions

Masks are expected to be worn in all public places, but Indian states have begun to ease restrictions such as night and weekend curfews. Other measures may include the requirement to submit a negative test to enter certain states and random tests in public areas, including airports, stations, shopping malls, and restaurants.

Rules for children

Children under five are exempt from the test rules.

Morocco

  • Evidence of vaccination or negative test required

  • Covid masks and passports in use

  • Children under the age of 18 exempt from the obligation of vaccination

Entry rules for the vaccinated

To enter Morocco, passengers must have received three doses of the vaccine (or have received the second dose of the vaccine within the previous four months).

Entry rules for the unvaccinated

Proof of a negative PCR test result is required, with the sample taken within 72 hours prior to embarkation.

Covid passports

A vaccine pass is required to access public places, including hammams, gyms, bars, restaurants, hotels, shops and sports halls. The vaccination pass of the NHS is accepted.

Mask rules and other restrictions

The use of masks in public spaces is mandatory.

Rules for children

Children under the age of 12 are exempt from the above requirements.

Thailand

Entry rules for the vaccinated

Fully vaccinated travelers can apply to enter Thailand via the Thailand Pass. The test before and after arrival is no longer required. All arrivals must have insurance with at least USD 10,000 of coverage for medical treatment in Thailand.

Entry rules for the unvaccinated

Unvaccinated travelers have two options through the Thailand Pass program: testing 72 hours before departure for Thailand to avoid quarantine, or entering five-day solitary confinement and testing upon release.

Covid passports

Nobody.

Rules of the mask

The Thai government recommends wearing masks outside the home. In Bangkok, masks are mandatory on public transport and in shops.

Rules for children

Children aged 17 and under can enter Thailand on the same regime as their parents and do not need to show proof of vaccination.

United States of America

Entry rules for the vaccinated

Fully vaccinated adults from the UK can enter the US without a test.

Entry rules for the unvaccinated

You cannot enter the US unless you are fully vaccinated, unless you fall into its non-citizen exception category. You can find more information here.

Rules for children

Children under 18 are exempt from the obligation of vaccination for entry.
