Arkane finally confirms, yes, Deathloop takes place in the Dishonored universe

Since the release of Deathloop last year, fans have thought the acclaimed time loop shooter was actually set in the same universe as Arkane Studios’ hit Dishonored series – and now theorists can finally leave themselves behind. and collect the cork boards: the developer has indeed confirmed that it is.

Creative director Dinga Bakaba broke the news on the latest episode of the Xbox podcast (thanks PC Gamer), confirming that Deathloop is “one of the futures of the Dishonored world.”

When asked directly about the possible link between the two games, Bakaba replied, “We have several systems. [that mean] not everyone saw the same [in Deathloop], not everyone heard the same song hidden somewhere, not everyone saw every room. So it was nice to see the community getting the little clues we sprinkled all over the place, yes, we really did imagine Deathloop would be in the future. [the third Dishonored game] Death of the Stranger.”

“Something we don’t want to do [too big a deal about],” Bakaba continued, “because [Deathloop is] its own story, its character, its own time period that we want to embody… But also after Death of the Outsider… We always wondered what would happen after that. When we were doing Deahtloop, we said, ‘Hey, this could be one of those things.

“There’s a certain timeline to tie this in, and there are actually a lot of clues in the game. Some of them are obvious – one of them is really spoiler-y so voila – but there are [are] lots of little things and some were always right under people’s noses [that they’re just now] to understand.”

Bakaba pointed to Deathloop’s Heritage shotgun as his favorite example, noting the small logo on the side that was barely visible for a long time. But since Arkane gave idle animations to the main character Colt in the last Goldenloop update, it’s now possible to clearly see that the logo actually depicts Dishonored’s Dunwall tower.

“So there’s a lot of little things like that,” Bakaba continued, “and then you’re like, ‘Hey, wait a minute, if this is Dishonest world, where could that be? And then you can actually follow through and it all makes sense.”

Bakaba also explained that if players take a step back to look at the world as a whole, they will see more similarities between Dishonored and Deathloop, from their magic and technology to their classes and inequalities. “Even though this is something the characters run away from [in Deathloop]” he added, “you can see that these differences are still there.”

“We tried to see everything as an evolution, but every time,” Bakaba said. [the characters] We talked about the past, either obscure enough or naturally obscuring names. They’re talking about the homeland, not Tyvia, but… once you know, you can figure it out and yes, it makes sense. It was nice for us to imagine one of the futures of the Dishonored world. ”

Deathloop was recently released for Xbox after a year of PlayStation console exclusivity and is now available on Game Pass for Xbox and PC. So if you’ve been hoping and wanting to try making these Dishonest links for yourself, now is the time.
